SVCC 30th Anniversary

SVCC Celebrates 30 Years

In September 2010, Southern Vales Christian College celebrated 30 years of educating Christianly in the southern region of Adelaide.

There’s a worship song that starts “Sing a song of celebration ...”. Over our anniversary weekend we did just that - celebrated 30 years of Christian schooling through the ministry of Southern Vales Christian College.

The anniversary celebrations were attended by a great mixture of past and present students, family members, staff, and Principals. There was a wonderful mixture of conversation, music, food, displays, and memories.

One of the day time highlights was a cake cutting ceremony by Brian Cox (our founding Principal), Jennie Dicker (Brian’s successor) and Andrew Clayton. Each spoke briefly before cutting the cake and each reminded us of the faithfulness and the goodness of God across the 30 years. It was wonderful to have Brian and Maureen and Jennie and Michael back at the College again.

The Cocktail Party evening was also a marvellous feast of conversation, music (Paul Kay and his students again), flamenco dancing by Kristy Manuel and Aloysius Leeson, food, memories, speeches and a history quiz (the Hinkley clan who won the quiz!). There was a silent auction, door prizes and a “guess the weight of the old school bell” competition (yes, we still have the original bell!). The highlight of the evening was the speeches and another cake cutting, and Brian, Jennie and Andrew spoke with passion again of the faithfulness and goodness of God.

A thanksgiving Sunday service at Morphett Vale Baptist Church saw staff and families gathering together to give thanks and to sing a “song of celebration”. Barry Manuel preached and reminded us of the importance of retaining our distinctiveness and standing on the Word of God. (See the PDF below for the full text of Barry's message.)

We serve a marvellous God whose “faithfulness continues through all generations” (Ps 100:5). The 30 years of the College’s ministry bears testimony to this and we are so thankful. It is a privilege to be a part of all that He is doing in our midst and will continue to do into the future.
